Interview: Tritonal
While most trance music remain manufactured and exported out of Europe, the chance collaboration of Chad Cisneros and Dave Reed have shown that two can play that game. Their synergy has lead to original productions “Let Solitude” and “Piercing Quiet,” which are regular weapons in every DJ’s arsenal this year, and they scored gold with an energetic interpretation of Ferry Corsten’s “We Belong.” They recently released the highly anticipated “Crash Into Reason” that you may have already heard on radio stations.
Describing their music as “cutting edge,” there’s a signature big sound on all of their tracks, the signature they fondly refer to as “Air Up There” as their remixes and radio show are often named after. Logic meets emotion through synthesized magic when Tritonal flex their creativity and genuine musical prowess. That, and these guys are pretty damn friendly.
We get Chad to open up to us on Tritonal’s past, present, and future on this Radio KUL Extra exclusive.

Julie Thompson - It Only Hurts (New Single - Out Now!)
This is Julie's first single taken from her debut upcoming album 'Feeling For Corners'.
Julie Thompson’s quote about her soon to be released debut album ‘Feeling For Corners’: “I wanted to write an album that was lyrically honest and song based. Each track was written at a piano. I was really pleased that Black Hole Recordings wanted to release it and that Andy Duguid agreed to produce it. The whole album was written at a time when lots of changes were taking place in my life and the album depicts my deepest thoughts and feelings of that specific period.” “I chose to call it ‘Feeling For Corners’ as it was a time of letting go and trusting in what will be will be. I believe all we can do is keep putting one foot in front of the other and feeling for the next corner which, when we turn, usually takes our life in a new surprising direction. So as well as the darker moments in the album, there are also many lighter, uplifting ones that hopefully people can relate to.” Julie Thompson surrounded herself with the best possible team imaginable: one of the most talented producers the scene has ever seen, a worldly acclaimed record label and the back-up of one of the biggest DJ stars on the planet. When combined with Julie’s impeccable voice and writing expertise, the circus called ‘music industry’ is definitely in for a treat!

Trance Nation (Mixed by Above & Beyond) Out Now!
Trance music is now the world’s biggest dance music genre. In the UK, Calvin Harris has taken the sound to No.1, and in a DJ-mixed form, trance regularly tops the compilation charts. When it came to choosing who should revitalise their legendary Trance Nation series, Ministry Of Sound had only one outfit in mind - Above & Beyond.
Officially Britain’s most popular DJs, Above & Beyond were recently voted Best Group at the International Dance Music Awards, ahead of the likes of Daft Punk, Soulwax, Justice, and Pendulum. Now ranked No.4 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs Poll, their largest gig to date was in front of 1 million people in Rio, Brazil.
Through the mix albums on their label Anjunabeats, Above & Beyond have been awarded numerous compilation of the month reviews in the dance press, while their latest release is currently sitting at No.1 in the US iTunes Dance Album chart.
The trio are so renowned for their own compilations, that they’ve politely steered clear of mixing them for anyone else. That is, until now. When they were asked to relaunch the classic Trance Nation album series for Ministry Of Sound, the opportunity to stamp their mark was too good to miss.
"Ministry of Sound was keen to take the Trance Nation series back to its roots and approached us with the idea," said Tony of Above & Beyond. "The early editions of the series were amongst the most complete records of their time, so we were keen to get involved.”
"We've picked the latest tracks from our favourite producers, remixers and artists to create a 160 minute mix that captures the trance scene as we see it in the summer of 2009,” he added. “As ever, our focus is on quality tunes, so we hope this CD will stand the test of time: that's the Trance Nation legacy as we see it."
Widely regarded as the world’s premier trance and progressive house label, Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats imprint receives consistent acclaim from critics and dance music fans alike. Under their OceanLab guise, which also features vocalist Justine Suissa, the trio of Tony, Jono, and Paavo, have established themselves as a leading force when it comes to intelligently written vocal dance music.

Interview: Jaren Cerf
Jaren's introduction to dance music happened when she met Matt Cerf in 2005. Soon after, the two started collaborating with Shawn Mitiska under the name of Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren. The success of the Retrobyte remix of "Light the Skies" placed Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren solidly among dance music’s next generation of heavy hitters. The track was included on Armin Van Buuren's A State of Trance 2007 and named as one of his top tracks of 2007.

Lyrics Of The Week: About You
My fingers are becoming dumbs
After that days I’m incapable falling
You are deep in something
It is danger
But you are looking around
You are my reflection
It is stranger
And I want to live in there now
Fire is in another sun
My skin begins blowing
You are deep in something
It is danger
But you are looking around
You are my reflection
It is stranger
And I want to live in there now
You are deep in something
It is danger
But you are looking around
You are my reflection
It is stranger
And I want to live in there now

Vocalist Of The Week: Cathy Burton

Cathy Burton
When it comes to strategy, we all know the value of playing to our strengths. Yet in a world populated by single-virtue personalities and monochrome brands things seem a little dull from time to time. So when an artist shows up with a truly broad pallet from which to paint, we queue up to sit around and watch it take shape.
Enter Cathy Burton: songwriter - performer - scholar - teacher - pupil - and all the rest that you could possibly hope for. A voice that hurts as well as it heals, an attitude as honest as it is determined, an artist standing at the foot of an epic canvas, about to paint in her future.
A music scholar first, Cathy's craft has been developed over years of study. Teaching piano brought its own lessons, as did working alongside a range of artists in a range of capacities. From scoring to supporting, providing backing vocals to co-writing alongside some serious talent, Cathy's breadth of experience has turned her into a singer-songwriter with plenty to say and plenty with of ways of saying it.

Not just “The Motorcycle Girl”: Jes can stand on her own!

We’re not sure which is sweeter: her personality or vocals. Though it’s been tough for female singer/songwriters to gain recognition in the dance music industry, Jes has become one of the genre’s few breakout vocalists. Fans sing along with every word and adore the rocktronica queen. This weekend, she’ll be in Vegas to perform at Rain on Saturday, but first, Jes gives us the scoop on emerging from anonymity and her upcoming album.

Lyrics Of The Week: Summer Sutra

Calling out to me today
Beams of light like an overglow
Falling off me again and again
I hear the sounds of the sea
I hear her voice
I feel her calling out to me
I feel I have no choice
There’s something about today
Something in the way
Like Summer Sutra
There’s something about today
Something, some would say,
It’s Summer Sutra
Cool reflection of shimmering light
Won’t let me sleep again
Pretty patterns casting far and wide
And my mind’s awake with it
I dream of long empty shores
I hear the crash of the waves
I know my dream is also yours
So let’s leave today
There’s something about today…
Summer sutra

Who would you like to hear in Vocal Trance?
We would love to hear your answers and thoughts. So please leave us a comment in this post or in the ChatBox.
Personally I would love to hear singer-songwriter Amy Lee sing in a trance track. She has a very beautiful angelic voice which I think would fit into the trance genre very well.
Amy Lee is co-founder and lead vocalist of the rock band Evanescence.

Nadia Ali - Fine Print (Lyrics)

I can't get close enough to you
Been months I got your call
Our falling out we slipped right into
You were an ace for me
My crazy heart got hold of you
Your hand called every bluff
I had to fold and let it go
Since I saw you last
I've been holding back
I figured I should do just that
I thought I'd crack but I smiled instead
I'll let you read the fine print
I walk a line between
The thoughts of now
And where I've been
Today the grass is green
I've got it all, so why reminisce
I'm just a mermaid
Who is not content with waveless oceans
Sometimes a gusty wind
Is what I need to feel again
Since I saw you last
I've been holding back
I figured I should do just that
I thought I'd crack but I smiled instead
I'll let you read the fine print
Read between the lines
For what got left behind
But I can't say I hold it down
The weight of seeing you now
I've been holding back x5
I thought I'd crack... I thought
I've been hold...
I thought I'd crack but I smile instead
I'll let you read the fine print
Since I saw you last
I've been holding back
I figured I should do just that
I thought I'd crack but I smiled instead
I'll let you read the fine print
